On July 9, 2013, the Department of Languages, Literatures and Intercultural Studies of the University of Florence unanimously decided to found the “Multilingual Cultural Heritage Lexis” Research Unit, formed by Sabrina Ballestracci, Annick Farina, Arianna Fiore, Marcello Garzaniti, Michela Graziani, Pau Montserrat, Carlota Nicolas, Valentina Pedone, Christina Samson, Reinhard Schmidt and Salomè Vuelta.
In a following session, on October 7, 2013, the Department approved the project “Multilingual Cultural Heritage Lexis ” as well as Marcello Garzaniti and Annick Farina as coordinators. The aim of the project is to foster both linguistic and cultural skills required to convey cultural heritage by following two paths: the study of translations of classic texts representing Florentine Renaissance starting from The Lives of the Artists (1550-1568) by Giorgio Vasari; the creation of a database formed by the lexis of tourist guidebooks of Florence in different languages. Lexicographic entries will be derived from these databases and will be made available for consultation on a dedicated website.
